Pontycymer RFC 39 - 6 Bryncoch RFC

Pontycymers four game winning streak continued in this Division Three West Central clash as Bryncoch, nicknamed 'The Eagles', left Lawrence Park with their wings well and truly clipped.
It was the visitors who started the score-board rolling with a penalty before home centre Steve John then levelled the scores with a monster penalty of his own. Bryncoch kicked another penalty to edge them infront at 6-3 and then Pontycymer skipper and flanker Andrew Harris smashed his way over the chalk to get his sides first try with John converting and he also slotted over a touch line penalty. The Green and Ambers then hit a ten minute purple patch which resulted in speedy wing Tom Harris touching down just before half time. When the sides stopped for their half time slice of orange it was Pontycymer who took a well deserved 18-6 lead.

The second half was all one way traffic with the Garw Valley outfit holding all the ace's. After some quick thinking from live-wire scrum half and teenage tyro Geraint Gillet from a tap penalty the ball found the hands of replacement No.8 Rhys Hosey who bludgeoned his way over for a try in 'Tubbs Corner'. Centre John added the long range extras then Ponty's fourth try came via burly wing Dave Upton, who gave a master-class in how to run hard and straight at the defence and come away with the spoils. Steve John converted again with five minutes left on the clock dynamic hooker Scott Forrester scored a fantastic late solo try to put the icing on the cake for the Green and Amber army with centre John converting and taking his match tally to 14 points and rounding of an outstanding day at the office for the Lawrence Park side. Pontycymer were well served by eye-catching centre Nathan Silverthorne and industrial forwards Rhys Dent and Zac James.

This Saturday Pontycymer play in round Three of this seasons Welsh Bowl competition when they travel to Old Penarthians.

Also on Saturday (29th Oct) Pontycymer Rugby Club will be holding a family Halloween disco at their clubhouse between 6:30pm-8:30pm. Entry is £1 per person with all welcome.
