Pontycymer 16 - 25 Glais

Pontycymer welcomed Glais to Lawrence Park for the start of the 2017/18 campaign and it was the home side that outscored the visitors 2-1 on the try count but the telling factor was the amount of penalties given away by the Green and Ambers.
Glais broke the dead-lock in the fifth minute with a converted try under the sticks and this was just the tonic the Garw Valley outfit needed to pick up the pace of the game with flanker Rhys Hosey and lock Zac James making the hard yards at the coal face and soon it was game on with a brace of penalties from scrum half and player/coach Tom Davies.
The visitors then fired over a hat-trick of penalties of their own to make the score 16-6 in their favour. Then just before half time Ponty got their first try of the season when from a strong driving lineout powerful no.8 Richard Harris crashed over for the score and it was game on again with the score16-11 at the interval.
Glais started the second half the stronger kicking yet another penalty followed by a drop-goal and the visitors were then reduced to 13 men with two yellow cards for a high tackle and no arms tackle. Eye catching displays for the Lawrence Park side in defeat came from former Llanharan star Ross Pearce and full back Garin Hawkins. Glais put the game to bed with another penalty and with two minutes left on the clock Pontycymers replacement wing Kyle Galtry galloped under the post for a late consolation try.
On Saturday Pontycymer travel to The Bandstand where they take on newly promoted Bridgend Sports.
